ALOE VERA / Aloe barbadensis
Aloe Vera is a very common plant. Its main use is as a cosmetic, but it is also used to improve digestion. Aloe vera extract is also beneficial against diabetes. It is very good for skin also.
AJWAIN / Trachyspermum ammi

Trachyspermum ammi is traditionally believed to be digestive . In southern parts of India, dry Ajwain seeds are powdered and soaked in milk, which is then filtered and fed to babies for good digestion.
AMLA / Phyllanthus emblica

Amla is eaten raw or cooked into various dishes. In South India tender varieties are used to prepare dal (a lentil preparation), and amle ka murabbah, a sweet dish indigenous to North India (wherein the berries are soaked in sugar syrup for a long time till they are impart the sweet flavour); it is traditionally consumed after meals. In South India, the fruit is even pickled with salt, oil, and spices.
Amla is traditionally believed to nourish the hair and scalp and prevent premature or grey hair. It is also used to treat constipation, reduce fever, purify the blood, reduce cough, asthma, strengthen the heart, benefit the eyes and enhance intellect.
ARJUN / Terminalia arjuna

Arjuna has astringent property, reduces motility. Being haemostatic it controls bleeding in dysentery and haemorrhoids.
It is a good cardiac tonic as it gives strength to the cardiac muscles and improves cardiac function and rhythm. Arjuna enhances blood quality and also acts as haemostatic.
It is effective in diabetes and gonorrhoea, by reducing urinary discharges and relieving burning and pain during maturation.
It corrects the low blood pressure and tones up the capillaries.
BRAHMI / Centella asiatica

Brahmi is beneficial as a brain tonic for children. It reduces stress related anxiety. It is beneficial in increasing concentration.
HALDI / Curcuma longa

Turmeric is commonly used in Indian and Bangladeshi clothing for colouring purposes. As a food item it is practically used in every preparation of Indian food be it curries, dals etc. Turmeric has antifungal and antibacterial properties which are beneficial for the cure of many diseases.
IMLI / Tamarindus indica

Tamarind is used in chutneys in India. Sambar, a South Indian dish, cannot be made without Tamarind. It is used in Ayurvedic medicines for gastric and digestion related problems and in cardio protective activity.
JAIFAL / Myristica fragrans

In India Nutmeg is used in many sweet as well as savoury dishes (predominantly in Mughlai cuisine). It is also added in small quantities as a medicine for infants. It may also be used in small quantities in garam masala. Nutmeg has been used in medicines in India since at least the seventh century.
JAMUN / Syzygium cumini

Jamun has a combination of sweet, mildly sour and astringent flavour and tends to colour the tongue purple. The seed is used in various alternative healing systems to control diabetes. It is even good for digestive ailments. The leaves and bark are used for controlling blood pressure and gingivitis. It has a high source of vitamin A & vitamin C.
JAVITRI / Myristica fragrans

Javitri comes from the same family of Jaifal. It is also used in Indian and Mughalai food preparations. Javitri is also very expensive just like Jaifal. According to Ayurveda, it is bitter, hot in effect, pleasant, light, good digestant, anti-kapha and anti-vata.
It helps with bronchial troubles, nausea, vomiting and heart troubles. It is used in insomnia and senile debility. Being strong and hot in nature, it has a special effect on the nervous system and thus helps in sexual inadequacies.
JEERA / Cuminum cyminum

Cumin seeds are used as a spice for their distinctive flavour and aroma. It is globally popular and an essential flavouring in many cuisines.
It reduces superficial inflammation and pain. Apart from kindling appetite, it digests food and normalizes vata in the digestive system. It reduces pain experienced during indigestion, flatulence or heaviness of the stomach. It purifies blood. Cumin seeds act on the female reproductive system by reducing inflammation of the uterus. It also increases milk production in lactating mothers.
As it normalizes vata and kapha it acts as an aphrodisiac. It is a skin friendly herb and reduces itching.
KALI MIRCH / Piper Nigrum

Kali Mirch a very common spice in South East Asia, is used in most of the food preparations. It is beneficial in Cold and Cough, Asthma, Indigestion, Liver related problems, Impotency, Toothache. It is an integral part of garam masala.
KARELA / Momordica charantia

Bitter Gourd has a very effective role in the treatment of Diabetes. It has anti malarial, anti cancerous properties. Bitter melon has been used in traditional medicine for several other ailments, including dysentery, colic, fevers, burns, painful menstruation and skin problems. It is also very effective in weight loss. In India particularly it is used as a vegetable in daily life.
LAHSUN / Allium sativum

Garlic is also a plant that has a large number of medicinal values. It is used to lower blood pressure, LDL Cholesterol. It lowers and helps to regulate blood sugar. It helps prevent clot formation. Garlic even helps prevent cancer and can reduce size. Garlic is a natural antibiotic and kills bacteria. It has anti-fungal and viral properties. It has antioxidant properties.
Garlic is known to stimulate and promote healthy immune system function. It strengthens the body’s defences. It kills the organisms that cause cholera, dysentery. It is an invaluable medicine for treatment of asthma, coughs and difficulty in breathing.
METHI / Trigonella foenum graecum

Fenugreek helps in reducing med-dhatu (fatty tissue) which in turn helps in reducing weight. The leaves of fenugreek in cooked form, help in indigestion and relieve flatulence. The herb is rich in vitamins and minerals. Leaves and seeds contain calcium, phosphorus, and a few vitamins from the B-complex group in addition to vitamin C. It is also a rich source of iron. Both leaves and seeds should be included in normal diet of family, especially diet of growing kids, pregnant ladies, puberty reaching girls and elder members of family because it has haematinic (i.e. blood formation) value. Fenugreek has mild laxative properties which also helps in cleaning ama (toxins) choked in body systems thus helping restoration from illness. Ayurveda has recommended use of fenugreek in promoting lactation in breastfeeding mothers. It has also shown results in controlling diabetes.
MULETHI / Glycyrrhiza glabra

Mulethi is used in Ayurveda in the treatment of respiratory and digestive disorders. Mulethi's use is specifically indicated in the treatment of chronic acidity, ulcers and chronic bronchial conditions. Investigations observed that Mulethi activates ulcer healing. It even acts as an anti-stress and anabolic agent. Mulethi with Honey is a very effective remedy in dry cough. Mulethi powder mixed with jaggery {GUR} and water is also used as a laxative in constipation.
NEEM / Azadirachta indica

In India, the plant is known as "Heal All," "Nature's Drugstore," "Village Pharmacy". Products made from neem trees have been used in India for over two millennia for their medicinal properties. Neem products are believed to be antifungal, anti diabetic, antibacterial, antiviral, contraceptive and sedative. It is considered a major component in Ayurvedic and Unani medicine and is particularly prescribed for skin disease.
PIPPALI / Piper longum

In Ayurvedic texts pippali is referred as one of the most powerful Rasayana herbs. In the Indian Subcontinent it is used as a spice in homes. The fruits and the roots are attributed with numerous medicinal uses and may be used for diseases of respiratory tract like cough, bronchitis, asthma etc. Pippali is used as a general tonic. It is beneficial in dysentery and leprosy also.
PODINA / Mentha spicata

Podina is used in generally every Indian kitchen as a spice. Podina is used as an expectorant. The plant is highly effective in treating headaches, rhinitis, and cough, sore throat, colic and vomiting. It serves as a good blood cleanser, since it is antiseptic and antibacterial. Podina plays a significant role in alleviating swollen gums, mouth ulcers and toothaches. Crushed and bruised pudina leaves are used in treating insect bites. The decoction and infusion of its leaves and stems helps in fever, stomach aches.
SHANKHPUSHPI / Convolvulus pluricaulis

SAUNF / Foeniculum vulgare

It is used globally as a spice and also as an ingredient for food preparation. Fennel may be an effective diuretic and a potential drug for treatment of hypertension. Saunf is a very good purgative and is also used in cough cure. It is good for eyesight and is beneficial for new born babies for colic pain.
SUNTH / Zingiber Officinale

TEJ PATRA / Cinnamomum tamala

It is commonly used as a spice in the Indian Subcontinent. The leaves are highly effective in the treatment of diabetes, migraine and gastric ulcers. They are quite beneficial in case of bacterial and fungal infections. Bay leaves are frequently used in aromatherapy due to its aromatic properties. Bay leaf is also used in the treatment of rheumatism and colic. They maintain the sugar level of the blood. They improve the immune system of the body and thus act as an antiviral agent.
Tej patta is a rich source of copper, potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, zinc and magnesium and thus helps in maintaining the pulse rate and blood pressure. SHIGRU / Moringa pterygosperma
Shigru improves appetite, is digestive, vidahi, grahi, analgesic, antibacterial and deworming agent. Due to its ushna guna it acts as a stimulant to the heart. It is even beneficial for the kidney and increases urine output.
It is beneficial in Eye disorders produced by kapha.
SHATAVARI / Asparagus racemosus
Shatavari is beneficial in epilepsy, syncope and vata disorders. It is a foetal tonic, galactagogue and aphrodisiac.
It is useful in general body debility and as a mansam ogami and muscle strength.Shatavari being diuretic in nature is used in dysuria.
BHARANGI / Clerodendrum serratum Linn.
Bharangi is useful in anorexia as it is a good appetizer, digestant and laxative.
It is snigdha and madhur, so it acts as an expectorant.Thus it is useful in coughing and hoarseness of voice.
In amenorrhoea, Bharangi powder is used along with decoction of sesame seeds.
BHRINGRAJA / Eclipta alba

ERAND / Ricinus communis
Erand alleviates vata, swelling and pain, therefore it is used in conditions like backache, sciatica, chest pain, rheumatic pain etc. Warm Leaves or oil is locally applied.It is kaphaghna by its ushna and tikshna property, therefore it is useful in bronchitis and asthma with predominance of kapha.
It is good for Rheumatoid Arthritis. In skin diseases it is given for shodhan.
GUGGULU / Commiphora mukul
Anti inflammatory, analgesic, anti bacterial in nature.
It is a popular herb for vata related disorders. Guggulu is useful in loss of appetite, constipation, liver problems, piles and internal worms.
It is a good cardio tonic, It increases haemoglobin and leucocyte count and enhances blood quality.
BAEL PHAL / Aegle marmelos
Unripe Bael fruit is an appetizer, digestant and astringent.
The ripe fruit is a mild laxative. It is kapha shamal hence used in cold cough and dyspnoea.
Its leaves are beneficial in reducing blood sugar

DALCHINI / Cinnamomum zeylanium

ELAICHI / Elettaria cardamomum
